With an impressive background as a former champion and an undefeated boxer, Coach Abimbola now channels his expertise into fostering new talents and guiding them towards success in the ring.

Drawing on his years of experience, Coach Abimbola shared, “I have had the privilege of training numerous champions who have gone on to surpass my achievements.

These talented individuals, some of whom have ventured abroad, have flourished under my guidance.

Names like Tayo Agbaje, Sikirut Sogbesan, Fatai Balogun, Wasiu Balogun, and Rilwan Akanbi have emerged as champions through my coaching.

” With a journey that spans over a decade in the coaching realm, Coach Kola’s track record stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment.

Having transitioned from an illustrious boxing career to coaching, Coach Kola understands the importance of support. He acknowledged, “Support, especially from fans and former students, is crucial.

Supporters who attend our activities contribute, and I’ve also received support from former trainees, some of whom now reside abroad.

Additionally, my involvement in producing boxing equipment for sports shops has been a supplementary source of support.” However, he lamented the lack of substantial support from governmental bodies or corporations.

Reflecting on his coaching journey, Coach Kola reminisced about the transformation of his pupils. He proudly stated, “We clinched the governor’s belt in a competition, and the winner generously reinvested his compensation into our gym’s development.”

Delving into the dynamics of boxing’s popularity in comparison to football, Coach Kola offered insights. “Football, universally celebrated, naturally receives more attention. However, in combat sports like boxing, personal growth and the pursuit of excellence are paramount. While teamwork plays a role, individual fighters must prove their mettle to thrive. Recognition and support come after proving oneself,” he emphasized.

Expressing his perspectives on limited government support for grassroots development, Coach Kola attributed it to a lack of personal experience.

“Anybody that has passed through the game, will know the pain. Only those who’ve endured the challenges truly comprehend the struggle. As a former champion, I empathize, and that’s why I’m committed to uplifting young talents. The journey to success is a tough one, and without adequate support, it’s a daunting endeavor,” he observed.

When it comes to nurturing young boxing enthusiasts within the community, Coach Kola’s gym provides an inviting space. Situated within Eko Boys’ High School, the gym offers free registration for those aged 10 and below, contingent on parental consent. Participants aged 11 and above register with a nominal fee and parental support, embarking on a journey to shape their boxing prowess.

In closing, Coach Kola extended sage advice to aspiring boxers, emphasizing discipline, dedication, and positive representation. He emphasized, “Boxing isn’t for troublemakers; it’s for those who wish to rise, prove their worth, and contribute positively to their families and nation. It’s a path to excellence and an avenue to make both country and family proud.”

With a legacy built on dedication, resilience and the molding of champions, Coach Kola Abimbola continues to inspire young talents and elevate the world of boxing.
